Yeah was looking at the Works range Jimmy, due to braking. What sort of rope are you gonna use to allow a bit of stretch in the line?

You can use the small ATV winches from Warn.
Brawn also make a small one that works on the Firetruck.
Might even be able to use a boat trailer winch.
A pulley is probably a good idea to use as well, especially on the smaller winches. It is relatively easy to break a single steel cable. Not sure on plasma (yet).

If you are really keen I know someone that is cutting down Warn 9000 and 9500's to make them similar to the little specialist Warn rockcrawling winches.

We've been cutting down 9000, 8000 and 6000Lb whinches for ages. Works well. Very easy to do.

Probably a 15 minute job.

paint it red and you have a flash limited edition Warn rockcrawling winch.
