I'd like to visit Whitnoom, however is there any asbestos risks for passerby's?

Will be camping out at Dales Gorge.

last time I went thru , bout 18 months ago in the truck heading out to FMG's solomon mine site there were still a few residents living there but as far as im aware the official town has been wiped from the maps and im under the understanding power services have been cut to the town tho there is still a Telstra phone box just out of town at (I think the road train assembly area)

haven heard any news about asbestos out that way with any of the new mines of truckers going thru and the trucks do tend to kick up a fair bit of dust , but as I was once told the fibers arnt just sitting on the ground but come from the refinement process dur in the mining of a certain product

maybe if you are interested in visiting the area and have the concern contact a local tourist centre as they will tell you where they suggest to stay away from and why

As the trip is only weeks away, I have sourced the required parts I shall be carrying from rockauto. Amazing the cost difference shipped from US than locally sourced. Close to 40% savings.

I am seriously considering finding someone who can fabricate some bracket or uneek like bracket for my front runner roof rack so it extends out to the pinchweld. I will be carrying camping gear on the roof.

I might be looking for a Wilco tyre carrier($999) or a Mirack($399), or go without the additional spare....

As you can see in the photo attached, the uneek base bracket looks like it may help the front runners with downward pressure. Neither uneek or front runners would benefit for upward pressure. I know if I can get hold of this uneek bracket, it may just do the trick, as the front runner backbone rail can be mounted outwards so it wont align to the roof lugnuts, also meaning the roof rack would sit closer to the roof.

Anyone know a Perth fabricator who could do this sort of thing?

it would cost more to get a fabricator to make up rails due to the curve of our roof, you can buy the rails from uneek for $500 i think and then just have to pair the frontrunner rails with the uneek base .

not worth paying a fabricator cos i would suggest it would be alot more expensive than getting the uneek ones . i looked into it and i'll wait to see if chief release the support seperately or just buy the uneek one and get a fab to make up arms for the pioneer

you won't contract asbestos from a visit , my mother was basically raised in witnoom and has had cancer issues and my brother brain cancer and my grandfather a raft of health issues but passing by , especially today isn't going to do anything but then again i'm not a doctor

I sent of an email over the weekend to a few fabricators in Perth with the same photos above. One of them replied saying $350 +gst. I will wait for a couple more but its looking ok.
