Just an update incase anyone is interested, I put the old calipers back on this morning with the same rotors and pads and they are working fine. Definitely calipers.

I had same problem. Turns out that the old brake fluid had water in it and was heating up causing the calliper to close. Changed fluid with fresh stuff and fixed the problem.

Don't be so quick to blame the new callipers, I had the same problem and after fitting new callipers is still done the same thing. It turned out to be a fault with the master cylinder after it was replaced I never had the problem again.

I have just had this happen about 2 weeks ago, both front wheels seized so I took the calipers off & they function OK, put them back on & the wheels could be spun easy by hand while raised off the ground. Test drove the xj & first time I applied the brake they again stuck on. Do you have ABS brakes on yours (I do) & can these malfunction & result in the the brakes locking on?

I don't have ABS (mine is a sport) and as far as I am aware, ABS won't cause the brakes to lock on (correct me if i'm wrong), their function is actually the opposite, to release brake pressure when you've planted your foot and locked the wheels.

Also I've flushed the fluid completely a few times now so no moisture in there. Old calipers are back on and event went 4wdriving today with no issue. Negotiating with supplier at the moment to hopefully get a credit instead of a replacement.
