I was about to say, never take the accuracy of a gauge for granted!

Did a bit of sand driving on the weekend and a run up Willunga hill which is a 3 km steep climb.

The temperature gauge stayed 3mm above the 1/4 mark as long as I was going more than 40kph, even in soft sand it stayed there. I idled the motor until it reached 100 degree mark, the thermos came on and it cooled back to 3mm above the 1/4 mark within 30 seconds. If I drove the car after idling it would cool with the movement of the car so the thermos didnt have to come on at all.

Willunga hill normally had the temps around 100 plus by the top but with this new radiator the temps did not move.

I will borrow a digital heat gun to see what the 3mm above 1/4 temp is.

So far this radiator has proven to be a worthwhile investment.

cheers,

Well by my guess the quarter mark is 70 so maybe it's running at 85 degrees or so?
Interested to know!

No use pointing that temp gun on a shinny surface. The reading will be wrong, the radiator hose is usually good. Check the difference between the two hoses to get the temp drop accross the cooler.

Heres my temp readings using a digital temp gun.

Gauge 3mm above 1/4 mark.

Top radiator hose 89 C

Bottom radiator hose 68 C

Block just in front of oil filter 93 C

Do you think this is too cold?
