Default Snow chains

I know we are headed into summer, but I would like to know your experience with snow chains on the XJ. I have seen a YouTube video where an XJ with chains on the front wheels makes it up a steep trail with thick cover and no rear lockers. Another XJ with rear lockers activated and no chains makes it to about 3/4 the distance but only on the second attempt.

Has anyone found the car unstoppable in thick snow with the front chains? Has anyone used the long nylon cable ties?

XJ snow videos are fun to watch. I reckon the driver in the video below eventually dropped off the kids at school or went grocery shopping, or work after this video was shot.

are your intentions to use the chains on trails or on the blacktop ?

ive always fitted mine to the rear when ive been to falls creek or hotham, but very rarely have i had to fit chains to a 4x4.

Snow chains on 4WD vehicles should go on the front first, then on all four wheels.

In this location they will help cut thru deeper snow and aid with steering.

(Learnt from 10 plus years working in an Alpine Environment over winter)

Cheers.

My question was not specific to blacktop or deep snow. However, I live in an area which could get snow or black ice cover. If the authorities decided to close the main road, I do not believe they would make exceptions to 4wds, or snow chains.
