Alternator fail
I took our 2012 GC on the beach yesterday. The alternator cooked close to catching fire. Had to disconnect the alternator to get it off the beach. Am now stuck up the coast. I wasn’t aware there is a recall on the alternator https://www.productsafety.gov.au/rec...grand-cherokee
Anyone else had a similar issue? Interested to know how likely Jeep will be to foot the bill.

Diesel or petrol? The recall is for the petrol, but the diesels seem to be having a similar issue. Hopefully they will recall the diesels as well.

Yep, they should replace the alternator due to the recall, others have had damage to the PCM and battery as well.

There are more and more 2011 - 2013 Diesel JGC's having the same issues with their alternators too. I wonder how long jeep will remain in denial until providing the same TSB for these models?

I think the thing holding them back is that they don't even have a fix for the petrol models yet. When the fix is sorted I'm expecting them to recall the diesels too... supposedly first quarter 2018 is the timeframe for a long term fix for the petrols.
