Front end bearing noise

I'm wondering if I am going crazy from the BFG Muds but it does seem that there is definitely a weird noise from my front end. It's been there for some time now and I've always thought it was most likely the tyre noise but a mate noticed it the other day without me mentioning it and he's around 4bys a bit.

I dont have any play in the front diff bushes that I can see when doing the P-->D test, just a bit of driveline slop. No super obvious grinding that I can find from jacking each side up, found that it was pretty hard to turn each front wheel (one side at a time) with the auto in neutral (and TC in its normal state). Each side had zero free spinning when I tried to get them to but I assume that's caused by the driveline (front diff, front shaft, transfer case).

Anything else I'm missing?

Check for play in the front output flange of the transfer case.

Thanks for the reply, thought I'd need to isolate the front next, I've found there is no difference if I am driving it or coasting (in neutral) which I think is another test to try and isolate the gearbox.

i just replaced one (still to do the other side) i had no play in it, but once off it had a notchie spot. 250k on the clock and at $220 ea posted inc a new speed sensor can't complain.

Got oil in your transfer case ?
Is this noise a whir, click, grind
Does the noise happen at certain road speeds
Does the noise happen on certain road surfaces
Does the noise happen at certain engine revs
Does the noise occur with the steering wheel turned

Oil is in the front diff (changed about 5,000 kms ago)
Oil in the transfer case but will flush this weekend
I'd say the noise is a whir, grows we speed and is not engine revs related (still there when in neutral) seems to exist during turns of the wheel will have to see if slight left / right movements make a difference to try and narrow it down to a hub. It kind of sounds like tyre noise but louder.

Could well be a dry CV joint
Only way 2B sure is physical inspection
If you've got an oil can and some thick oil
It's possible to jam the spout between the boot & shaft
Couple of squirts of oil and reseal with a cheap cable tie
(but cable ties are not waterproof)
