### Update ###
I went to pull out the radiator so I could get behind it and pressure wash it from behind, but forgot about that quick connect coupling on the bottom transmission cooling hose. As I didn't have 2 hose clamps to suit I couldn't cut it off.
I did manage to bring it forward enough to get behind it and do the job.
But it was the air condoning condenser that was choked full of mud.
I'm looking forward to testing it out!
But I do have a question. Short of not driving through mud, is there a way to stop it getting in without restricting air flow? I suppose hosing it off after every trip would help, but unless you pull everything apart you're just going to push the mud further in.

only ever had my xj over heat once and that was due to mud , mud kills cars period it gets into everything and shortens lifespans , maybe some shade cloth over the grill that can be removed once full of mud would allow full airflow when you are no longer in the mud as well as being easily cleaned .

I was going to use a relay that was triggered by the stock electric fan. But I have since discovered that this fan doesn't cut in until 106°C. This seems a bit high to me.
So I'm not sure sure now. I have to do some research.

AFAIK the clutch fan will usually pull a lot more air than a thermo fan. I was considering the mod but when a rad bloke told me I am best sticking with the clutch fan I went no further with it.

IMO if your having overheating issues there is something wrong with the stock system rather than a failure of the way the stock system is set up.

I'm on my 5th XJ petrol.
All standard Cooling systems save for the Auto transmission cooler separated from the Radiator.
None over heat and I run AC 24/7 and live and work in Northern Australia.
If your over heating then you still have a issue some where in the basic system.
I tow in sand with a tail wind and still don't over heat.
