No. I did not think of trying that. Weird thing is that around 30% of the time it holds beautifully and then it just gets it in its head that it wants to accelerate the other 70%. I will give the brake pedal a try. I only ever have the problem in low range. Thanks.

Yes. Nearly out of warranty. It has almost 90,000 on the clock so only another 10k and warranty will be over.

Was having exactly the same issue ( put up a post a little while ago).
2015 8 speed crd.
Having the car suddenly freewheel/change up through the gears & bolt down a steep hill is a bit scary !
Took it into the dealer & asked them to check if all computer updates had been done.............. sure enough, an update re transmission had not been applied.
Dealer rectified.
Next trip will be able to test.

Thanks grandpa. I hope it fixes it for you but I doubt it. They did a gearbox one for me probably about 5 months ago but it made no difference. Maybe there is a new one.

If it does not fix it can you watch the fuel input gauge on your dash and see if it actually pumps fuel in with no accelerator input. Mine jumps from 2 litres p/100 klm to around 24 litres p/100 klm just before it changes up gears. Just like sticking your foot on the accelerator but I am not.

Yes it is not a real nice feeling when it accelerates down a steep slope especially if it is a bit wet. A bit of a safety issue in my opinion.

I will try what SnakeDoctor suggests next time and rest my foot in the brake pedal without breaking and see if that changes things. Bit of a pain resting your foot on the brake pedal down every hill where a low gear is require though.

Down hill decent works ok but that is a bit slow for some hills. That was Jeeps suggestion to get around the issue at one stage.

Let me know how it goes Jeepstuff, I had the same complaint and another guy didn't, I had to see for myself, looked closely and he was applying brake pedal.

Since then i've been testing it and even in high range on the highway it actually kicks down gears upon brake pedal pressure down a steep hill.

Will let you know if the fuel input changes. Will also try the "touching footbrake trick".

I've only ever used hill descent ( in previous JK Wrangler) on those short , steep "' Oh my god I'm going to die" type downhills.
Using hill descent for anything more than a few hundred metres & you could smell the brakes starting to cook !..............

The other day the Service Manager from my jeep dealership came out into the bush with me to experience first hand what was happening. He took another my14 GC off the second hand lot to determine if it was just my GC or if it was a common problem. We found out that the one off the lot did exactly the same as mine.

We also found that the selected gear would hold ok until the engine came back to an idle or close to it eg over a contour bank or where it is really rough and you slow down.

Anyway the SM was going to take it up the chain and see if they would look at rectifying the problem. I have not heard back from him as yet.
