For a while the price of stat writeoff KJ CRDs was high.
As the rumours go, they were being repaired and shipped out of the country.

5K was about right for an engine, prices have dropped and when I see a stat writeoff or otherwise a KJ CRD for a couple of K I buy it as I know I'm going to use the engine at some point.

Regards
Daz

P.S re Colorado engine is the same (read similar) later series engine as a JK Wrangler etc, therefore realisticly forget putting it in a KJ

Hail damaged KJ 181,000 km went for 4 grand today. The buyer wanted the engine to replace one that numerous people could not get to run. Eventually went to Jeep dealer who also failed and then wanted to charge owner 6 grand for their useless time. I think they started to dismantle the engine (110,000km) Guys told me I can buy their leftover parts if I want to. Seeing I think I only need at worst case a crank, rods, and balance shafts, this should get me out of trouble, or as usual for me, into more trouble.

Thanks for that Midnightmods. If the cost of repair gets too high, I will just part out the vehicle. Also will keep some parts for my every day drive KJ, which was the main reason I bought it. In such good condition it is a shame not to put it back on the road.

Hi senatorjohn,
" The buyer wanted the engine to replace one that numerous people could not get to run. Eventually went to Jeep dealer who also failed and then wanted to charge owner 6 grand for their useless time"

I've seen this a lot and have picked up a few KJ CRDs for a good price with this same fault (as in nobody could fix it). The one I have at the moment is earmarked for a mates daughter (as her first car).... providing I can get it running lol

Unfortunately from my own experience with this "issue", he will replace the engine and still have the exact same fault, will end up with two good engines and no running KJ.

Just on another note, I havent been following your posts, the engine that needs repair , it surprises me it needs any bottom end work, they are a tough design and nicely built.

Regards
Daz

Hi Darren.
Still at the guesstimation stage. Stuck a USB camera up the sump plug hole and saw what looked like the mangled end of a con rod. Seeing the balance shafts are below the crank, could not be certain. Bit difficult to get my head around the distorted images I saw. I have ruled out piston - valve interference since the camshaft appears to turn in sync with the crank. Could be a while before I get back to it. Was sweating on a hail damaged 07 KJ CRD with less than 80,000 km on it but could not access the online auction today because of computer problems.
