I was thinking " glad my 3 x XJ and parts only owe me ~$2600 "

wouldnt want to be selling anything at the moment

especially wouldnt want to be selling an over-priced 4wd

think you could safely say it will be a buyers market in the very near future

It took me 3.1/2 hrs to change the bottom hose what a wonderful job Blood everywhere from trying to get my hand in I had to pull the fan shroud and electric fan and the air box and the clutch fan then drop the belt just to get to it!
all I have to do is refill the coolant now ... and that can wait until tomorrow I went and had a Tub and a Beer
The old hose had 2 pin prick holes on the clamp line at the water pump end ...
I had a real good look while it was in bits (again) it didn't seem to be leaking from any where else

Those small pin pricks could of been just enough for your Jeep to be loosing radiator pressure.
A pressurized system has a raised boiling point. Your system may of not been pressurized, and hence was reaching boiling point and overheating early.

I think you will find now with your flush, ZJ clutch fan, and new hose that should help maintain a pressurized system, that your car won't know what hit it.

Happy cool running's.Mark..

P.S. good time to do a pressure check on your cooling system is when you get it all back together. Easy with a few cheap parts. Bike pump, Stant Lever vent radiator cap, bicycle valve and a $2 Ebay blue light. Pump up via the overflow hose that comes off the radiator cap, while the Lever vent is in the open position. Up to about 13 psi should be enough.. then use the black light at night to check for glowing coolant. My pump has a small pressure gauge on it, so i can check for leak down.

Cheers,

Last year at Jambo at the Glasshouse , we went out on the hard trip with Patchy the first day.
Wamted to do Big Red before the week long deluge started.
Got to Little Red , just as I was about to start the climb , it started raining.
Waited at the top for my son.
Couldnt even hear him.
Ran down and hes got the bonnet up on the XJ.
When he ran back to it , he saw coolant dripping out.
Split bottom hose..
So I ran back up , as another group had arrived.
Drove back down.
Cut hose 50 mm shorter , the curve at the bottom.
Spent the next hour getting burnt and arm cheese grated.
Finally put a rag over the radiator.
And in between , Jeeps going on their sides, action everywhere.
Eventually got it on.
Took nearly a month for skin to grow
