Default Mopar Rear Steel Bar

Hello Boys and Girls,

Just wanting to know if anyone here has got one of these babies on there JK??

I had the package put on on delivery which consisted front and rear bars etc...

The rear bar has been a pain from day one.

The problem is the right rear corner steel bar and mud flap bracket.
The mud flap bracket(L shape) is not part of the bar.

The mud flap is screwed onto the bracket and the bracket is bolted onto the body of the vehicle.

The problem lies with the top part of the bracket which rests on top of the bar.

When you are driving along and hit bumps the bar and bracket make contact due to flexing and then the bugger starts rattling and clunking.
Been back to Jeep and they knew asap what the problem was.
They used some sort of double sided anti rattle tape(yeh that's what they call it) in between the bar and bracket but only lasted a week.

Yesterday I got a small strip of rubber about 5cm x 1cm x 1xcm and placed it in between the bar and bracket. Also used some glue to hold it in place.

It is fine on the roads etc now but the test will be off road if it stays in place etc..

If not going to take the bracket out and drive around without rear mud flaps etc.....

Freaking thing drives you nuts when your doing a 100km stretch, not even the radio helps then

Hi AP,
I've got a Mopar rear bar and I don't seem to have your problem. Here's mine:

Both sides are the same. It must be the superior installation skills of Berwick Jeep!

Maybe you just need to loosen all the mount bolts and force the bar down and the bracket up.

I'm glad you asked this question because when I went to take the picture I gave the bar a bit of a wobble and it needs tightening.

Thank you guy's.

Hey Grahame, thanks for the pic.

yep that is the sucker. There is no gap in mine like yours.
On mine that top bracket(mud flap) is flush against the bar.
Hence the problem.
Actually looking at your photo mine is much different.
The fender, the mud flap bracket and the bar there are no spaces in between.

But I'm going to take your pic to Jeep at its 1st service and get the buggers to fix it.

Thanks again.

I wouldn't get too concerned over stock mudflaps - they have a life expectancy of about one trip - actually one obstacle - offroad.

If its road only then whatever, but for offroad use IMO a complete waste of plastic.
However they do produce a very satisfying crunch when you back over whats left of them.

the brisbane dealer seem to drill holes in the bar and attach them without using any stupid looking bracket. Much better idea IMHO.

I use cable ties to attach my mudflaps which happen to made from 3mm hdpe plastic haha
