Default Thinking of a Grand Cherokee

Hi All,

It's 3 years since I traded the old KJ (still miss it!) but we're looking for a new 2nd hand 4wd. We've seen a 2014 GC Laredo locally at a decent price with the Pentastar V6.

What are some of the things to look for with these and potential pitfalls with the Grand Cherokee?

Cheers.

Hi,

I just read on the Perth Jeep Community Facebook page of a person that just bought a Jeep around the 2014 mark and it had the petrol V6.
They didn't do their due diligence and i think they are regretting it already.
They realized after they bought it that it had a tick. Took it to the mech, and he is saying new heads, lifters etc..at a substantial cost.
Not sure what the deal is with that engine around that year, but just do some research and get it checked over by a Jeep indy mechanic before you hand over any cash.

Hope its a good one and you really get to enjoy!!

Cheers,

Thanks Alexbrown64, I'll have a good listen to the engine for any unusual noises. Looking to buy form a dealer so potentially some coverage from warranty if I notice anything in the first 3 months. Still not 100% sold, but will look at it and drive tomorrow with the better half to see what she thinks too.

There are threads in here relating to the cylinder head woes on the Pentastar, I think the left cyl head was the problem? Many will have been fixed, so worth digging into the car's mechanical repair history if available.

Check the yank site for any listed Recalls/TSB's that haven't been done, just need the ViN, no Australian site to check.

Just make sure you get it checked over by a good mechanic beforehand, I wouldn't rely on the dealer to do anything as regards warranty once you drive it out the gate.

Whenever I purchase a used vehicle I try to find one in the last year of production for that model.

By then all the bugs, recalls and fixes have usually been done.

Additionally, I always gravitate to the one with the lowest km’s and a full service history along with the vehicle looking like it has been cared for (not just ‘corrected’ with a detail).
