Keeping it directly in line still means there is a change in length or position as it raises. Just a fact of physics I'm afraid. As soon as the pivots points are not in the exact same plane in all directions the distance will still alter.

they made a similar one to that wrangler's for defender 90's.. maybe safari gard made it? not sure how different their arrangement was but it might be something worth looking at.

Yeah, I have a vague understanding of physics, those are laws that ya just can break eh? Keeping the povit parrallel will mean none of the telescoping and fiddly bits, but more hinge/povit points.
This is where I need a coaster and a pencil from the TAB.
On the bottom, if there is a double hinge arrangment, IE, 1 povit on the gate and a second on the carrier, spaced out from each other say 60/80mm, and the top is located close to the gate hinge, it "should " work and clear the door as it opens.

I've been thinking about mounting my spare at the back but don't want a traditional swing away this is perfect when does production start and how much for insall haha
but serious this is a great and totally doable you'll have to keep us all up dated on your progress
