Default P0702

Hi all,

Had the dreaded P0702 code on the dash. Also have P1652. My ELM327 won't work comes up with OBDII socket error in jeep diag pro. I'm assuming my reader is stuffed.

The socket on the transmission that is also associated with this code is dry. Fair to say it's not that?

Or should I replace this before getting a shifter board from Europe?

Any experiences / thoughts?

Thanks,

P1652 is a CAN bus error. Most likely the TCU is missing from the network or has dodgy power. The TCU draws its power from the shifter PCB. It's not looking good for that PCB. Given they are so expensive, it might be worth getting a better OBD11 adapter first, but it really looks like the PCB.

Does it drive at all?

Thanks for the reply. It ran and drove until I got home, engine light came on and would not go into forward or reverse. After reading codes through dash I started it and it moved back and forward but I didn't go far as engine light still on.

I have a new OBDII coming, it looks like the one I bought from jeepswj years ago and says it's compatible with the jeep so I will see how it goes.

I took the shift PCB out and only thing that really stands out is the contacts that the shifter pin uses for position are oxidized and dirty, would cleaning them up help maybe I'm thinking. Bad contact?

Thanks,

Had Same issue. Mine went from one moment to another from working fine to refuse to function at all. I got a replacement from the WJDiag guys since alternatives were only refurbished plates with the chance of getting same issue again. So I was biting the bullet and had no transmission issue since then.

You can check on their website and see if your shifter plate is still ok and it might be something different or if it is really gone. I think the LED are an indicator, if no LED is lighting up then there is a high chance that the plate is gone and needs to be replaced.

Ok after reading codes,

Engine:
P0702
P1652

Transmission:
P2602
P220A
P2200
P2212.

Cleared codes and started in neutral, attempted to shift into park and grinding noise, immediately throws code P0702 and P2212.

All signs point to shifter PCB?

Ok, some of that had probably a lot to do with I didn't put the covers on the shifter back in correctly so the magnets weren't lined up with the sensors. Whoops.

Lights on PCB work, battery died all of a sudden, only been turning it on and off a few times this week, could a bad battery cause these issues? The lights on the PCB work.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Good news with the ligths, this means that there is at least no real issue with your board.

A bad battery does cause these issues absolutely. Not sure about the exact code but I had it now several times that mine went into limp mode due to low battery voltage. The first Battery died just a a couple of weeks ago and during that course I got issues all over the place. And when I got the Jeep and had the radiator issues, my Jeep was just standing around and drained the battery, same things. AND just 3 or 4 weeks I had same issues with a brand new battery (got it from Costco with 900 CCA for a decent price) same happened. My radio, as well as the alarm system just drain the battery if it stands around for too long. Once I recharged my battery and it was back to its full capacity and I keep driving the Jeep, the error codes and the limp mode disappeared.

If you battery is bad and you want to replace it, then I can recommend the Battery from Costco. I have seen other batteries with lower CCA for 400 Dollar and more. The one from Costco was 249 Dollar and Adrian and some others said good things about the brand. And I live remotely so even on ebay or other battery vendor would not ship where i live....
