Mate, I'm 6'5 tall & 6'5 wide. I was worried too but it's awesome.
I will run lanyards on the rods, paddle & tackle bag.

We have a 3.3m and a 4.2m kayak and used to get out quite a bit but we sold the car with the roofrack so we'll need to wait until I find the right one for the Jeep.

Kayak fishing
I've got a B-line Wobbygong Canadian style and have just bought a Whippella to go on my whipper snipper, for an out board, just tried it on a side mounted transom, but it was a bit of a failure, too hard to control, I'm going to try a rear transom set up next, with an arm and hand throttle!

Often, if you keep your eyes open, you can find old Canadian fiberglass canoes for under $100 . Thats what I started with. They are super stable ~ I had no problems standing up in mine. My K2 is just as stable. For long trips you pack them up with so much gear that they are only just out of the water.

Interesting thread.
I have always been a camper, off road explorer, and to a lesser extent fisherman. As my kids are growing, I am thinking how good it would be to do kayaking or canoeing with them, particularly in inland creeks, rivers and lakes. I recently saw some kayaks in Rays, particularly the Dragon kayak. I wanted to buy it, but it is long and only fits one person. The other even longer kayaks have two seats. I have two young kids and they are too young to be paddling on their own. These things look fantastic, but sitting them on an XJ roof for a 4000 km round trip is a stretch, particularly with a touring tent above us too. Maybe buying the kids their own kayaks down the track is a possibility. For now, what are my options? I am thinking that it could be a reliable inflatable. I can always inflate and deflate at the waterway. I would not want to tow. Any suggestions?
FWIW, I LOVED that Dragon Kayak!!!!*
