Default choosing a rear diff lock

Hey guys,

Im looking at getting a diff lock for the rear of my xj, stock axles running 31s roughly on a 3inch lift.

I have looked into the ARB air locker although as I have been reading around it seems to have pretty mixed reviews.

Ive been told to stay away from auto lockers as my xj is my daily.

any help or recommendations would be great, cheers,

Jim

Yeah, ARB is rubbish steer clear.

Have a look at the G2 Core locker, they are a manual full spool air locker with the high pressure air parts on the outside of the housing removing the risk of high pressure air busting your seals and the other problems ARB have. It also allows you to manually lock it directly at the diff if you manage to kill the air supply somehow on the trail. Another upside is you get a diff cover with the locker.

The E-lockers seem ok till you use one, they are not a solid manual locker due to the "cam style" locking mechanism. This means it takes 1/4 revolution of the wheel to lock (no good when you have it loaded up), then it unlocks for a half wheel rotation when you reverse, then the same when you go forward again so you might as well use a auto locker.

If you go an auto locker than make sure it is a "detroit style" one, these work well on the road and is the only style you should buy.

Well I guess there are differing opinions of ARB lockers, but I have used one for years in a toyota and it has been trouble free and extremely durable and reliable.

They are worth there weight in gold when they get you out of a axle deep bog with nearly a tonne of wet cement in the tray.

yea a few people are telling me they have never had a problem with there arb lockers.

having a look at the price of the auto lockers, i could almost get front and rear for the same price as an airlocker from ARB, would a front and rear auto locked xj be less or more capable than an xj with just an airlocker fitted to the rear?
