Default Today Show - Just announced 4x4 OTY conternder - WJ CRD

Just woke up to seeing my Grand Cherokee 2.7 TD CRD on the box! It was lined up with five other foubies, and John Mellor (4x4 Australia) told the audience that the CRD was " a blend of Daimler/Chrysler high technology, which had turned out the most efficient 4x4 on the road".

Can't wait to get the mag when it comes out. Hope it knocks that darn Prado off the shelf.

Yay!!!!!!!

Don't hold your breath Chris.

I have found the best write ups are in the Courier Mail motoring section and in the Road Ahead (the RACQ mag). They deal with FACT.

The 4x4 specialist write ups that I have read are littered with too much OPINION and PREJUDICES and often INCORRECT facts.

This of course is only my personal opinion and matters only to me
I still buy the other mags from time to time in the hope that I can glean out the important facts.

Kel

You miss my point. The mere fact that it has mention in a major 4x4 magazine is good..... let alone any Jeep being nominated for Car of The Year...

The more 4WD magazine/writer/journo prejudice there is, the more exposure a car gets.

The more exposure a car gets, the more known a car is.

The more known a car is, the more popular it may become.

The popular a car is, the more aftermarket stuff becomes available.

I want a bloody snorkel.

GO 4x4 Australia YOU GOOD THING!!!

4x4 Australia are quite good I reckon!

I had a copy where they listed the 10 best and 10 worst four wheel drives ever.. and Jeep got mentioned a few times in the 10 best.. (including the XJ from memory) and some models of the Toyota Landcruiser made the 10 worst...

So maybe they arent too bias..

Dave

I agree with you. I quite like the different aspect to 4WD'ing that 4x4 give over, say, 4WD Monthly. The latter always seem to favour their favourite sons... the Landcruiser 100, 80 & 75/78 series. Occaisionally they'll throw a bone to the Disco as well, but rarely Jeep.

4x4 is also more family oriented, but not as much as Overlander... which I only read if it is in the magazine rack at the doctors...

As long as the exposure is ACCURATE and FAVOURABLE.

The magazine report I last read on the Grands bagged for among other things the driving position as "cramped" (personnal opinion) - my 6'2" tall brother fell off his chair laughing after reading that - we'd just travelled some 400k's in absolute comfort. Along with other inaccuracies the report probably COST Jeep sales which is the opposite of what you are hoping to achieve Chris.
I was especially peeved when they drowned the V8 - I actually bought the issue to see how the V8 compared to the CRD. They advertised on the cover that that was in the comparison and then they didn't deliver - my worthless opinion is that's "false advertising".

(how fast do the 4wd schools tell you to drive into water anyway....)

They also cost you and I money when trade in comes around - erroneous and bad publicity keeps the values down.

Don't get me wrong - nothing personal here......just food for thought and differing views..
