yes your dealer should be checking tow bar and all body /chassis bolts during services, its listed in the service maintance that the mechanic gets with every job
if in doubt check them your self
And WK1 (we know as WH here in Oz) doesn't require the bumper removed either.
It too is rated @ 350kg ball weight and as much as some "Henny Pennys" may think otherwise, I believe it is completely ok. I personally aim for arouind 10% of the towed weight, in my case, usually around 2,500kg, so 250 on the tongue.
As the previous poster said, Pajeros have been monocoque for years, as have the Jeeps (going on 30 years!), and there's hardly an epedemic of failures with eather.

The ZG and WG have 350Kg stamped on their tow bar also.

I had a WG and towed a 2.2t single axle van that had a ball weight around 250 for 3 years with no drammars and the WH is towing 3t van with ball weight around 180 and over some rough outback roads for the last 3 years and again all is well.
