Even though the different companies fuels come from same refinery it is the company additives that make the variations

For example when I used to fill at the Geelong refinery (shell) I was driving a Caltex tanker after filling with say What used to be standard fuel I used to stop under the Caltex additives tank (20 gallons per 1000 gallons or for the younger lot 90.92 ltrs to 4546ltrs)
and there you have what used to be CX3

it's pretty well accepted in my cirle of rev-heads that the bp is better than the optimax...hey don't sue me....just what I heard Mr Shell.

Chris, CX3 was the name they gave they're brew as described by Grant.

I've had many a discussion about PULP on this forum and i can say that i never got any better economy or power out of it with my 02' Wrangler but i did get better engine performance in the form of less pinging and the ability to hold the speed limit and pull up hills better and doesn't stall as easily when idling offroad.

HOWEVER, i havn't run PULP in the last 30,000klm but i decided to run it a few weeks ago since i hit 50,000klm on the odo and i thought i'd give it a go. Hey presto! I managed 410klm out of a tank, but hang on - i still went another 80klm on the fuel light and i still had about 6 litres left in the tank. I still havn't mentioned the 10% speedo difference either have i?

I gotta say that it seems as though since i've got a few klm on her, my TJ is getting better economy. Whenever i used to run PULP i'd get worse economy and power but a lot less pinging. Now, i went out yesterday to do some offroad work in low range and it performed brilliantly, no engine knocking/griding/pinging noises even though the engine was being pushed at idle. The best part is it holds 110klm/h effortlessly compared to regular and i'm now getting some decent klm's. 500klm+ i can live with...

Here's a quote from the TJ workshop manual;

Your engine is designed to meet all emissions regulations and provide excellent fuel economy and performance when using high quality unleaded "regular" gasoline. The routine use of premium gasoline is not recommended. Under normal conditions the use of premium fuel will not provide a benefit over regular gasolines and in some circumstances may result in pooer performance.

I like the excellent economy bit, the only way to do that is switch it off

I always thought that there was no point in putting in PULP to a modern Jeep because the computer wasnt set up to deal with 98 octane.

*.str did a full comparison on ULP vs PULP, over about a 2 month period. His results stated that there was little or no difference between the two.
