Ya know that noise ya 4.0 manual engine makes when it's idling up a hill etc in low range and it's kinda grinding/clangin etc cause you havn't given it enough happy pedal? Well i get less of the engine/strain/knocking with premium. But it's not worthwhile at all onroad

Well when the XJs first came out a friend of mine unfortunately copped a lemon. Having taken in back to Jeep on a ridiculous number of occasions for a ridiculous number of faults he had the engine replaced...and it still ping'd. So they replaced it again (you wouldn't believe how many things went wrong on this POS XJ...

Anyway, 3rd engine it and it still ping'd...and he was told (despite previous assurances) that he should run PULP and put up with it.

The upside of the story is that he dumped that POS...and traded up...and now he's traded up again and its driving the new diesel WJ...and loves it! Show's you how strong the lure of the Jeep brand really is...

Filling up? Don't pay for premium

Quote:
MOTORISTS paying a premium for top-of-the-range petrol are wasting their money, according to research by the state's motoring body.

Oil companies claim filling up with premium unleaded petrol, which can cost up to 10 cents a litre more than regular unleaded, delivers smoother driving, lower fuel consumption and higher performance.

But RACV research to be published next month shows cars designed to run on regular unleaded petrol fared no better when premium petrol was used.

RACV corporate and government relations manager David Cumming said cars needed to be designed to take advantage of the higher octane petrol for its use to have any benefits.
Quote:
While the RACV believes the advantages of using premium unleaded petrol are minimal, there are circumstances when there can be greater benefits, including for cars such as V8s and imports where manufacturers recommend a premium fuel. Cars built before 1986 and designed to run on leaded fuel can also benefit.

The RACV tests did not take into account the claimed long-term benefits for engine cleaning and maintenance.

Default Optimax

I wouldn't run Optimax in my lawnmower let alone the jeep.I ran optimax in both my bike and my Jeep for a while. My bike was 4 months old when it started running sick.I took it to the dealership and the mechanic told me he has seen several bikes through the shop now that ran optimax and had the same gumming of the fuel system as mine. Not sure on the accuracy of the story but I've never had a problem since changing to bp and mobil.

tell me again why I shouldnt pay for premium?
I just filled my jeep with regular unleaded because Im broke and had to settle for the lesser of two evils.
now the jeep runs like a piece of shit.. idles badly and accelerates with about as much gusto as someone taking valium
and I cant believe JEEPS has converted.. he was so anti premium
