Default JK Hardtop Dolly (DIY)

After looking at the Bestop hardtop dolly for US$350 plus freight from Quadratec I decided the better option would be to teach myself to weld and make one.

I used:

6.5m of 25x25 SHS, about $26
0.25m 65x5 flat steel plate $1
4 lockable swivel castors $64
3m high density foam tubing $48
nuts, bolts and washers $15

Grand total was $154 and about 4 hours of my time.

The completed dolly

With the hardtop on it

As an afterthought I put extra foam here after the glass hit the metal, I suggest it is put there first if this is built

And it is now neatly in the corner of my very disorganised shed instead of on the floor in the middle taking up most of the space

I also bought a cheap gas/gasless mig from ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130943634...84.m1497.l2648 along with an auto helmet http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/400161633...84.m1497.l2649, a drop saw and a drill press but these are going to be used for the many projects I have planned so I can't factor the cost into the dolly.

I was planning to build one myself...thought about a wood version, but I figure my welding (pathetic) is up to the task, so I'll go steel like you did.
Nice work!

Well done, that's the spirit.

The difference between theory and practice is.. In theory there is no difference.
