During my first off-road trip it became clear to me that something had to be done about the ride height. I scaped just about every erosion control hump on the Davies Plains track, not too badly but bad enough.
In the past two months I've checked with every suspension place that I know of without much luck.
ARB have a WH Grand but have no plans for a suspension upgrade in 2006. They have more urgent (profitable?) priorities.
TJM have no immediate plans and Opposite Lock believe something will be developed towards the end of the year by Tough Dog. Rancho have no idea when the USA might do something for the vehicle.
King Springs have developed a new spring set but won't release it until they can get it into a vehicle for testing. They claim it will give a 50mm lift and be about 35% stiffer, but don't know what impact it will have on standard shock absorbers nor where to source new ones if needed. I'm in Canberra and they are in Brisbane and will only install it for testing there.
Lovells have no plans but would be happy for me to bring in the vehicle and they were sure they could 'make something up' - but again shocks are probably an issue.
And similar stories were received from Pedders, Carrols (EFS), and Dobinson.
That's about when I turned to the USA where the WH has been out for about 18 months as the WK (they don't have the diesel variant).
Came across Rocky Road in Utah -
www.rocky-road.com - and they have a 2 1/4 inch lift kit available. It uses full steel outer strut spacers for the front suspension, and high density polyurethane spacers for the rear springs. Also includes new Doetsch Tech shock absorbers all round. They claim that they have not had any problems with their products in European built vehicles.
Passed the kit details and installation instructions to my local suspension shop and they say it looks a very elegant solution and will happily fit it for me.
So its ordered and has been shipped. Hope to have it here and installed sometime next week. Will keep you posted.
