Default Towing with the MY14 8 speed

Hello All,
As I rely on the opinions of this forum I have another quandry for you.
I upgraded from a WH diesel 5 speed to the WK MY14 8 speed and my first weekend away towing my 2T van. When towing the the WH I was advised NOT to tow in D but to knock it down to 4th which worked extremely well even in traffic the gear box would shift at the right times matched to the load and never go past 4th gear, Perfect.
Now with the 8 speed thing are radically different. The manual says to tow in D and the gearbox has a "strategy", Bullshit do not believe it as even around town at speeds less than 80km/hr it works its way to 7th gear @ less than 1500 rpm, now this does not seem to trouble the car greatly as it shifts down but I am concerned with the constant shuffling as I am told to avoid this. I tried the sport mode and it does relatively the same as D.
Then going to the paddle shift to limit the gear to 6th you have to continually shift the gears manually.
I will work out a happy medium but I have been spoilt with how the old 5 speed box in the WH worked and am a little bit frustrated with the new 8 speed box.
That aside WOW it tows well and much, much better economy than the WH, just have to work out this flippin gearbox.
Any suggestions???
Regards
Mike

Mate you have worked it as far as it ever will be unfortunately , they should have left thr manual shift in the T-bar like the 5 speeds but alass they did not and using the paddles is the only way to get into the gear you want , I wouldnt worry about all the shuffling though its built to take it its more of a pain in the ass though lol

I just leave the auto in D but use Sport Mode when going up hills. Seems to work well.
