Default Radiator fans running high

It's just started to happen, but has happened about 4 times now in 2 days.

My radiator fans are running full speed. Temp outside was 13 degrees, car was being driven normally in light traffic..

No high oil temp...

Has anybody had this? It was loud enough to hear from inside the car with the windows shut. I got out, recorded it on my phone. Then turned the engine off, then back on (within 2 secs) and the fans went back to normal speed.

Has happened about 3-4 times now in 2 days...

It's under warranty, 6 months old, done 13,000 kays...

Just had it serviced 2 weeks ago, got the 'new' gearbox software...

Yup, I've had the same thing happen. Have called the dealership who 'can't replicate'

Watching with interest !!! Had mine serviced this week - not dealer. 3km home and the fans were going flat chat, coolant temp 58 degrees. Took it back next day and didn't do it, was told probably air con, but I don't really buy that.

Howdy,

Mine does this when doing a DPF burn, it's a MY13 so I get no notification on the dash. However, you can notice the exhaust gas is extremely hot, there is a burning sort of smell, and of course the thermo's are going flat out.

Cheers,
Matt.

I have had a similar issue with the thermo fans running high, as well as an increase in fuel consumption around 1L/100kms above average for us. Turned out to be the park brake not releasing properly (warning light also not indicating correctly). Took a little while to work out what was going on until I pulled up one day and got a good unmistakable whiff of the burning brakes. I had smelt it hot before but put it down to the DPF regening.

My dealer says that they have had a few come in with the same issue and is something to do with the ratchet on the park brake. They've ordered a new part for ours so hopefully it gets sorted soon.

Our engine temps appeared normal so not sure why the thermo fans were running high... Maybe the car thought we were towing with the additional load and the ECU changes it's cooling profile or something. It may be a separate issue but worthwhile checking it out.

Mine did this last week, first time in 2 years. I wonder if it's something to do with the new software they recently flashed as I've noticed a number of changes like more aggressive autonomous braking and shift to park when you open the door.

I just had the software update for the Park issue and was told by the dealership the
fan may run on high speed when doing a burn, they know it's an issue and will do
a recall when they have a fix
