Default Jeep Service not good enough

Hi All,

I have a 2011 JGC petrol with lux pack and QL fitted to it. I have just had the 72,000km service on the car. Whilst these are expensive, i believe it is a small price to pay for the warrantee.
I have asked to have a grinding noise (from what i believe to be the front diff) looked at. I have had this noise for about 15,000km now. It is only intermitted and usually when car is under load Eg towing my caravan and moving off from a stand still. At my previous service(60,000km), the dealer ship (I will keep them nameless at this stage) said that the issue is with the oil and it needs to be changed. No worries, go ahead. On the service docket it states this. After about 8,000k this then re-appears. At the 72,000km service they have said that they cannot look at it or even investigate it due to the tyres on my car. I have Coopers LTZ's. Now the noise from the diff came before i had the new tyres and before i had the previous service.

So why would one dealer look at it and not the other?
Why would one dealer say it is the oil?
Why will a dealer refuse to look at a mechanical failure (regardless of tyres) when you have a paying customer?

Non of this i knew when the wife brought it back from Friday. So i will have a conversation with these guys on Monday to find out WTF??? Seriously, why would you not investigate it?

Has anyone else had this type of grinding noise from the front of your cars?

Paul

Are the tyres much bigger than stock?
I think you are being had a lend of here mate. I have a WH that had a noisy front left CV, no fault of the Jeep ( long story) and when it went in for service they had a look at it and changed it out under warranty even though I had a 2" lift with after market springs and shocks.

If the issue was raised prior to the new tyres they have on grounds to refuse your warranty claim, it is on the record as being there before the change of tyres.
If you have the receipt for the service when they changed the diff oil & the one for the tyres take it with you when you confront them and point out the date.

I personally would not call them but go down there and speak directly to the service manager as it is a lot harder for them to fob you off when you are standing in front of them.

I had forgotten because it was 8 years ago now, but I had a similar issue with a diff noise which got 'the royal fob off' at the dealers too. I kept on them about it until it was fixed but geez it took a while. I first raised the issue within the warranty period (at about 70k km) but it was finally resolved at about 130k km with new bearings and a R&P. Under warranty.

All good since. Persistance (or is that persistence) is your friend. Don't let them get away with it.

Hi guys,

Thank for that. The tyres are only wider, i dont think that the circumference is any bigger. I genuinely believe that they are having a lend of me and the royal fob off. I have all the documentation and reciepts. The main issue is the service dept is about 100kms away from home. Anyway, the fight is yet to start...

This is the exact reason why I did not buy a WK2 for the wifes new car and why I will not buy a make that is not represented locally anymore. Nothing worse than dealing with slack dealers when they are not represented in your town. Mine too would be close to that distance and are not known for their abilities. Not isolated to Jeep of course, large number of dealers are like that these days, but Jeep overall seem worse than others. I feel for you.

If not suitable to front up in person as mentioned I would be putting all the facts down in email and sending to the service manager and dealer principal and Jeep customer service head office all in the same email so they all know who knows and keep chasing them for updates. Especially if the tyres are standard size or marginally bigger under allowed modification codes they have no justification to accuse the tyres of being the cause. Of course be aware these days with the states that have adopted the new modification codes for oversize tyres that it is not legal to change the size of tyres on an ESC equipped vehicle. Moreso diameter than width (not sure if width is mentioned)

Just to add... Changes to track width (maximum of 25mm comes to mind) is regulated as well as changes to diameter. I cant remember what it is off by heart so best investigate if you are going to play hard ball.
