Default engine No. where is it?

Hi again, yesterday I posted a question regarding the whereabouts of the engine number on the Merc. 3.0L diesel in my 2008 commander, although 71 views were listed, I can't believe all those knowledgeable jeep enthusiasts can't tell me where to find it. I need it to get it registered on Wednesday. any help appreciated.

Given you are in Victoria, who ever is doing the roadworthy will know where to look or they will contact their minder at VicRoads & find out. VicRoads have their own data on the location. Probably you could find the location via google.

hi

Vic roads will not have a idea when you book it as I asked them for my WJ and they didn't know and would not book it till I gave them a number.
I have 2 numbers on the side of my hemi, I do not know which is the engine Number. And I used to sell engines for a living.
With the wj on this site somebody told someone else with the same problem that it was so many last numbers of the Vin.
For the WH I also would like to know for the hemi
good luck

This is where all the UK forums say the number is BUT!

On my rego papers (NSW) it lists the last 10 digits of the vin number as the engine number "M86Y138688"

If the UK forums are correct the engine number of my spare motor is 771381

I have twice taken jeeps to VicRoads in Shepparton for reg inspections.
The XJ with a VM 425 was interesting as the engine number did not match records. The reason being is these engines were shipped from Italy to the USA with an industrial engine number and Jeep were suposed to remove it & stamp the new number on. It never happened & was not discovered until I had a roadworthy done.
On my KJ, the number is in a near imposible place to read. VicRoads just used the number on their records.
If you are polite to the inspector, you will not have a problem. They do have location details. I have seen their manual.
Maybe in Melbourne its different if their call center is anything to go by.
