Default Girlfriend killed my XJ! Helppp

She didnt exactly kill it.. but It died when she was driving it. all Iknow are her words.. "the lights went off, then the dash went, then the car just shut down and stopped running"

now, Ive had it on a jump pack and it starts and turns over fine, but as soon as I disconnect it from the jump pack it starts to conk out.

Any Ideas? I thought distributor but Im not really sure.

So its dead without putting an extra battery there? Sounds like its battery is flat, maybe dead. Probably the alternator died & the battery eventually went dead flat. Have you tried putting another battery in it or charging it up over night?
What voltage was it showing before it died?
What voltage does it show without the jump pack? When it is running on the jump pack what voltage does it show?

Im just waiting for my mate to get here with a battery so Im gonna give that a go..
I dont know what volt it was showing when she was drivin g but when i took it out earlier thast day it was running just short of 14 volts which is where it usually sits happy.
with the jump pack its sitting just above 12 volts. I hope its not the alternator, I only just changed it about 4 weeks ago!

I'll back up Jimmyb with dead alternator. In newer vehicles, once the alt dies, it runs as a total loss system from the battery. When the voltage drops below a cretain point, the instruments shut down, & shortly afterwards, there isn't enough to keep the ignition firing. (I had this happen on my bike some years ago. Almost made it home, running with the headlight off...)

Charge the battery & check the alternator.
