A few of the US Jeep sites speak of cracked flex plates. Mine has done 300k and there was no sign of cracking near the crank. I can confirm this as I had the trans out. I am not sure if the cracking is common in Jeeps with higher mileage than mine. IMO you would be best to spend 50 bucks and get it diagnosed by a trans specialist. My internet diagnosis on my trans cost me in excess of 2.5k by the time I finally got it sorted. Where as if I had it checked the cost would have be 300-400 bucks.

Regards A

Unfortunately, you won't tell from this side if the flex plate is cracked. It's a box out job.

The crack will be in between the bolts in that ring of 6 bolts in the middle there...

cheers

Like I said getting it diagnosed over the Net could end up costing you a lot of money. If you don't have the 50 bucks to get it looked at, then it would be a good idea to catch the bus until you can afford it.

I was just listening again, to the vid. Sounds like rattle continues, but slower, at idle. Similar to a tappit tick.

Use the dowel/stethoscope idea to see which general area the noise is coming from. Rear of engine, bell housing, front/pump area of trans, etc.

Have you had a hand on there anywhere, to feel it? (wheels well chocked of course)
