Post XJ with 35's

Hey guys,
Have done some searching and need some tech help.
I am wanting to put 35's on the xj but want to know what some of you have had to cut on the inner guards to fit them. Already know I need to add more bump stop.
I am currently running 33 x 12.5 x 15 and have no scrubbing. 5 .5 inch long arm lift with high steer and have trussed and strengthened front D30 and rear D44 diffs including RCV front axles and also including ratio changes.

I did read many years ago about some cutting that needs to happen inside the guards but can't remember.

Any help from you will be so great.

Cheers Chrisxj

I had to cut back the pinch seem in the guard (front and back), basically slot it and fold it back. It would also rub on the bottom of the battery tray on the drivers side at full flex, I was going to section that and make some clearance but didn't bother in the end as it was smooth and only rubbed occasionally.

Cheers
Steve

I had 35x12.5 MTZ's with Black Rock rims running 3.75" back spacing on a 95 XJ with 5.5" of lift and Bushwacker flares. Never rubbed any where and only cut the outer fenders to fit the flares. However, with 3.75" of back spacing, my tyres stuck out about 20mm past the flares and I got a defect notice which i am still working on getting off over a year later.
Eventually I will be going back to 33" tyres as i found the 35's on the XJ a bit of a handful.
May I ask what backspacing you are running? I am looking at Pro Comp rims with 4.50 for the 33's.
Cheers,
P.S, obviously, your brakes will have to work harder and i tried all sorts of stuff to get more power out of my brakes including a new booster. The secret was in the EBC Yellow Stuff pads... they are amazing and doubled my stopping power....

Like Steve, I cut my WJ at the pinch seam and used a duck bill and ball pein hammer to smooth it out. Your neighbours will be extremely delighted of course with the banging and clanging.... Makes it even for the yappy little poodle..

Use a high quality cutter or nibbler to cut and water based duct sealant in the inner guards to water proof it.

Wheels have 4.5" backspacing. Flares are a combination of Bunnings garden edging screwed onto Bushwacker Flares.

Don't go to Pirate 4x4 as you will be lynched there.. lol!

Oh yeah, after all that, get it engineered to make it worth you time and efforts.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the feedback. Going to instal 4.88 ratios and i currently run 33 x 12.5 tyres with -10 offset. Works well with my very cutout bush crackers. I don't suppose Steve F you had some pics of the seam mod you did.
