Default What temp do you run at

Hey guys

As the title says, how hot does everyone's xj run. Mine used to run at 190f. All ways just under the red on the gauge which is over 3/4 of the way up. Now that I have a new thermostat in and viscous clutch it's running in the middle of the gauge. Funny thing is a 180f thermostat was in and I replaced it with a 195f.

I thought it was normal that my keen ran above the 3/4 mark on the gauge. Obviously it wasn't?

Halfway between 100 and the first mark on the left, ie 95*

After my radiator repair and the whole cooling system up to scratch, similar to Bilnick's. With an OEM thermostat in there, it works so well, that if I rev the engine a little when stationary, after 15 seconds the needle starts to move down even further. I verified with LiveData scan for several weeks: driving around it is actually more around 91-92C. 195F rated temp should start to "open" around 90.5C... If it begins to touch midscale, its in the area of 95C, going to the end of the midscale mark would be 98C. So midscale is not really 100C...at least not in mine. For years it lived a needle-width left of midscale, it would only cross to " the other side" when on soft sand (eventually running hot twice before re-doing the entire cooling system overtime)

Where did you come up with this??

"Normal" operating temp is around 195*f which is just below half way, not 3/4's...

Even with straight water your temps still should be around the same....

We're digressing a bit from the thread, but I agree with JJ....my temps actually came down with diluting my 50/50 coolant mix...
