Engine hoses
I suppose this has been flogged to death, but a lot of people on the FB pages talking about having preventative maintenance. I'm talking about the turbo coolant hose and others that are hard to access.
I'm not confident in any Jeep dealer doing the job, apart from the cost. Nor are there any local mechanics I know that would be happy to do it let alone have experience.
So, is it really that difficult to tackle at home?
A detailed step by step instructions would be nice, but also need to know what parts are needed for the whole job apart from the obvious hoses.
Gaskets, O rings, clips etc.
And does the intake manifold need to come out, and if so, would be simpler to have a new one to put back?
Sorry to ask, but I'm sure others will be in the same position.
My car is a 2017 Laredo Diesel engine with 140k

There are a couple of mobs selling a kit of 'upgraded' turbo coolant hoses and the like which are a high-temp silicon - I think 7 Slot Offroad do one, possibly also All Grand Cherokee

I had 7 Slot do the valley hose and the rear turbo hose not long after I bought this one..."preventative" maintenance. The Z hose by the oil cooler was apparently fine so did not replace that one.
When I get back from this trip, I am going to have 7 Slot replace the oil cooler along with the Z hose..."preventative" maintenance again.
After being bitten by an oil cooler failure previously...whether it was actually the oil cooler or the gasket behind I don't know, but either way I am going to have it done. I am going to rob the near new cooler off my old Jeep and just use a new gasket / seal...

Not for you Jeeper6 but do you go genuine or aftermarket? I know of one failure of an aftermarket after genuine went. I believe it is the gasket that fails but from looking a while ago, I don't think you can get genuine gaskets or even the cooler. I think you have to buy the whole oil filter assembly. Ebay ahs them but not sure they are genuine and is genuine really the best?

At least with this mob it is a bricks and mortar so you can bang on a desk.....

Seals and.or poor casting are the cause of these things failing, a common problem on CRD's no matter the brand .................. If its not leaking leave alone ....

G'day GCD...when I replaced the oil cooler on the previous one, I bought the complete cooler and mount...from a Dealer it is called a "bracket", and is the oil cooler attached to the complete mount that goes on the side of the engine.
It is a bigger job to replace the whole thing though, rather than a few bolts for the cooler itself.
I may do the whole bracket this time too, dunno yet, the downside of that is the price of around $1700.00 as opposed to the cooler alone at about half that.
Other consideration is should the replacement fail, there would be warranty on the part. I am not a great lover of aftermarket parts...
