Everything is back together and I can happily report that the window is running smoothly. The cable was coiled a bit in the motor and I needed to power it up to then unwind it. No kinks fortunately. Photo of ugly fix hopefully attached.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN CHANGE THE TITLE TO THIS THREAD TO INDICATE THE ISSUE IS FIXED??

You'll know pretty quickly if it will work or not. At least your regulator failed at home, mine failed on the top of Big Red.
Had to perform some bodging to lock the window in Birdsville.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm happy with my cheap fix and can't see it coming apart again. Took all of 15 minutes to do, probably the same amount of time it'd take me to get on eBay. And I've still got $90 or more in my pocket. Next time one fails I'll assess it and if I deem it not fixable I'll head to eBay now I know that's the best place to get a replacement.

There is an easy permanent fix to the broken nylon block, simply insert a large split pin through the hole in the nylon block that is adjacent to the broken are of the anchor and slip the cable end through the split to be held by the eye of the split pin. To stop the pin pulling out, on the reverse side open the split pins legs and bend flat and to lock them use a small self tapping screw. Permanent fix to the anchor.

That's an even better price. Got a link to that seller for future reference?
I wonder what Jeep deem to be the average lifespan of their cars? That plastic retainer probably outlived more than half of the WG/WJ cars produced.
