Lenny

There is only 12v+ to the injector when the fuel pump is running. ASD and fuel pump are energised together. asd provides power to coil+ve and injector +ve.

are the injectors clicking/ firing when you crank? you can feel it or hear it if u use a long screw driver up to yr ear. or use a node light

Tony, the small sensor on the right is the obd1 temp sensor at the thermostat housing. We have two. The one at the back of the head is for the gauge. The one at the front sends messages to the pcm and controls aux fan.

Interesting to finally see what the fault is on Lens XJ. All these small problems go into the database and make life easier for all of us.

My XJ is finally running the best it has ever done in 12 years. I’m not touching it at the moment for fear of upsetting her.

Cheers,

Otherwise check all your sensors for a 5 volt circuit But that happened to me and took me ages to figure out
Good Luck

...plug & play fault finding

@ the OP..yes you will need to check the cam sensor next with a multimeter
the procedure is detailed in the FSM, "Index", "Diagnostic, Ignition System"

download the FSM for free off the internet
What's "FSM"?

Check for Spark First if you go to a auto sparky it will cost you $$$ you can run all those tests yourself it could be something as simple as a bad coil or a cam sensor

What do you believe? Under the hood I have 3 rivoted plates there, 1 with vin# and the year it was made I guess Says "97" Directly above that is a Plate says
"Built 96" and the 3rd Paint codes. So of the 3 which is it 97 or 96? What do you reckon?
