Default Noisy Tow bar Hitch

Everytime I tow a trailer it drives me mad listening to the knocking sound the tow hitch makes as there is a little play between the hitch and the receiver. Anyone else's Grand like this? And have you managed to do anything about quietening it up?

Oh, I have the genuine Jeep tow bar, it says 'Mopar Accessories' on it...

Drill a hole in the bottom corner of the towbar weld a nut over the hole and screw a bolt into the nut.

Then when you put you reciever in tighten up the nut and thats the end of the noise.

This concept comes standard on most Haman Reese towbars, I'll try and find a pic and post it for you.

I had it on my last towbar, the bolt was drilled through the corner to stop both horizontal and vertical movement.

Not the best picture but if you look at the 3 pics on the right, the top one shows the nut and bolt in the reciever on the bottom corner.

You can achieve the same thing by cutting a thread into the reciever (female) and then drill a hole through the hitch (male) and then screwing a bolt into it so it pushes hard up against the hitch.....same as above in theory

The way hayman actually do it is to cut a thread through the corner of the reciever and use a bolt with a locking nut to clamp the hitch. Probaly be a quicker way of doing it. I just have a thing about welding

They dont always do that anymore, mines a hayman reece & it doesnt have it.My old one did but when frequently removing /refitting hitch it gets annoying so I just left it loose anyway.

Use a high tensile bolt as soft bolts tend to wear and become loose again.
