And you will need double the rope length 😂
is it worth getting a winch with a higher rated line pull? I know a 8-10000 will pull a JK no worries but would a 12000 actually be better as the motor isn't working as hard? Thanks everyone for your responses so far. I am a complete noob in this department and appreciate all the feed back so far. I think I'm leaning more towards the smittybilt at this stage due to the higher water rating

Look at the current draws for the winches you are comparing. For runva for example the 12000 draws a fair bit less current because it's the same motor but deeper gearing.

Slower but less current draw.

I didn't feel like stressing the electrical system any more than necessary and actual winching time is only a small proportion of total recovery time.

If you are winching a lot maybe maybe it's worthwhile to be going quicker. But then again the alternator probably can't keep up...

Also need to consider that the rating is with an "empty" drum..... so your actual pull could be SIGNIFICANTLY less.

Its actually another advantage of using a snatch block..... makes you run out twice as much cable and therefore a higher line pull.

Most winches come with a chart of actual pull / current / line speed vs drum "fill" and if your new to a winch its well worth reading to get a grip on the actual capacity "in the wild" vs the nameplate number.

Ah I was talking lower. Like you I've got the UHF up on the hoop mounts, for my light bar though I'm using a U bracket as I couldn't find a leg configuration that would suit, not sure if I can sneak a winch in behind this setup.

Yeah I think there would be plenty of room behind that for a winch. I was very careful choosing my light bar to fit on the mounts that were already there. I've got a 20" 200watt bar from eBay with fully adjustable mounts for angle and width which is why I didn't buy the supercenter light bar.

Sweet thanks yeah the brackets that shipped with this I just couldn't get to agree with the mounting points. Anyway all good if the winch slips in, if not just gotta knock something up I guess
