I have never owned a lifted 4WD that relied on the bump stops to be a part of the suspension system. It might be different in a lowered car where you have significantly reduced travel and can easily hit the stops. In my book they are simply there to protect components. Sure comp 4WD's often run hydraulic bump stops but again their function is not to assist the suspension design but to absorb a big hit to protect components and they are progressive simply to deal with the massive impacts that are common. I would just be replacing with factory bumps stops

The bump stop is there to make shore noting hits any thing. The bump stop is your fulcrum point when flexing, if you never hit your bumpstop that is great. But I do I have 5" of up travel and I use it all. I stock bump stops only work in the last 2" of travel stiffening the feel so as to stop the banging that is felt.
I run Teraflex speed bumps you can feel than ad to the spring rate when you hit them fast, but there is nothing when flexing onto them.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It really helps with the decisions.

I replaced my front bump stops with jeep ones when I fitted my OME struts, not because they were broken but just because it was easy at the time & they did show signs of age after 150,000km, rears are still original.

My bad experience was with AC Delco sway bar bush's, I flogged out 2 sets of these in 12 months. I put this down to the urethane type compound they were made out of, sand & dirt got between the bush & the bar & acted like sandpaper flogging them out rather quickly.
I'm on 115k at the moment but my Jeep was a Grey Nomad car in it's previous life. Nothing offroad but I think it has towed a pretty big caravan all it's life. The rear springs and shock are flogged and I bottom out on road expansion joints on the hwy when towing. Ouch. I had a look the other day and found I was missing one rear bump stop so metal on metal crashing. Very ouch!!! This has accelerated the new suspension requirements and obviously, new bump stops.

I've read about (and had experience with) urethane bushes of various types and will be staying well away from them. To harsh and in the wrong places get flogged out like yours.

I can land a full set of 4 bump stops for about $100 from the US and Jeep Oz wanted $63 for a single front one. I'd hate to think what a full set would cost here.

Corrugations are just a slight vibration, 40 yrs of FWDing and most of them I've had OME underneath, the others didn't last.
Agreed. This will be my 3rd set of OME's (on different trucks) so I'm sold on them. Shame I can't Nitrocharger Sports for this Jeep as they were the business on my Rodeo. What a transformation. Hopefully the standard Nitros will help this truck just as much.

Thanks again guys. Based on your comments and other feedback I think I am over thinking it a bit and will just get a new set and go with however it is. It's unlikely to be or cause any problems with a new suspension setup. I also think I'll go with HD springs on the front and MD on the rear and see what happens towing. If I'm still not happy I'll decide on airbags or swap them out for HD springs.

Keep and eye out for a show and tell and a build thread once I get going.

Lol,lol, if your not jumping rocks then I would just go with the new springs and shocks and find a wrecker, $100 landed for a set is good, they must be about $10 each. Pricing/sourcing from Jeep should never be an option, they are always too expensive and the time it takes them to get anything is ridiculous, what I can get from the US in 5 days takes them 10 weeks or more, not an option really.

PS: Actually........ Go the import the wrecker would probably want $50 for an old one.

It's actually the only real option as finding a wrecker on the NSW South Coast that knows what a Jeep is is a real problem. It would cost me more in fuel than the postage from the US and even if I could find some I'd still only have used ones with probably more mileage on them than my existing ones.

If I'm going to replace stuff then I'll do it with new stuff. It's still not expensive.
