Default What size 16x8" rim for XJ

Hi guys, i am considering getting some 16x8 inch steel wheels for my XJ, there seems to be a fair amount of variety in 16's especially in Mickey Thompson Tyres (which i am planning to get). Can you please let me know what is the best size backspace in 16x8 inch rim to use on my XJ which dont require flares (a little bit of tyre out the guard is ok)? Im thinkining 16 x 8 with 4.25" backspace and -6mm offset from procomp, how much will this protrude? I have searched but not much comes up for 16x8 rims. Thanks.

So thats 1/2" less backspaceing than stock plus an extra 1" of wheel so it will be 1 1/2" further out than stock, at least the rim will be. Tyre size is pretty important when it comes to working out if they'll stay under the guards on a specific rim size.

I run a 32x11.5" on a 8" wide rim with 4.75" backspacing and it still sticks out past the guards about 1/2".

Cheers
Steve

Thanks for the help, i was thinking about LT265/75R16 (32/10.50R16 LT) with the 16x8 rim and just trying to match it as best as possible whilst also keeping the options open for wider tyres in the future. Can anyone suggest the ideal 16x8 backspace and offset for an XJ with least amount of rim hanging out the guards?

There are 16x8 rims in the states with 5" backspace, would these suit the XJ guards better? or would this cause excessive rubbing on the inside guards with LT265/75R16 (32/10.50R16 LT) or LT285/75R16 (33/11.50R16 LT) tyres?

Default backspace

Dont know about rules in the east but over here in the west we can only change the track width by 1" from stock well legally that is so 4.75 back space is it over here.

Same here, and one of the reasons I went with the 4.75 back spacing.

Cheers

Not overly concerned with legalities, more so the fitment. Do you know if the 5" backspace would hit the inner arch too much with the tyres mentioned above? Ideally i would like to go for a 4.75" backspace but am having trouble finding a 16x8 steel rim with these specs.
