Agree Drover...the size of the Oil Filter is 'relatively' small for around 8lts of Engine Oil...particularly Diesel Engine Oil.
Aftermarket Oil Coolers and Filter systems 'generally' have a secondary filter in-line....more Oil requires more filtering...simple maths....will take your advice should my service cycle ever 'over extend' like that again....just change the filter....its cheap and easy, so why not.

The engine block was designed very compact.
Hence the importance too of regular oil changes to keep the oil condition tip top.
The bearings' surfaces were increased it appears by increasing the journal diameter...not the width....so given the torque available the bearings will take a hammering over a very small area, and often will break through the oil film and grab the bearing shell...bang goes you engine.

Most V6 have an issue with bearings. They only have 4 main bearings & the bigends run 2 on each journal. The new ford V6 diesel can be tuned for much more torque & HP than the V8 4.2 Landcruiser but longevity of the V6 engine is an issue.

What is actually inside the filter becomes very important. A big empty can is no better than a smaller well designed filter.

When I had the WH with the 5.7L Hemi, the standard oil filter fitted was a Z89A...which is a piddly little thing in fact.
I changed that to a Z9 at the first oil change I did which pretty well doubled the filtration area being about double the physical size, as well as increasing the oil capacity by about half a litre. They shared the same diameter and thread.
Why they would fit such a small dinky filter on a 5.7L V8 is beyond me...as well as pushing out service intervals?...go figure.
(It did mean oil changes were a tad more dirty as I had to remove the little spoon shaped thing that directed the oil away as the filter was unscrewed.)
It would be good to be able to fit a larger filter to the VM too, but just not physically possible...just keep up regular the oil and filter changes.

Sorry to be a pain, just trying to search history for the engine oil sump bolt specs as will just buy a generic from Supercheap but which one. Always just reused the original and okay, now caught with a drip after changing. I have the MY14 and I think drover or another mentioned the trident reference? Then the fun of changing over will begin.
Is it this one Oil Sump Plug & Gasket/Washer/Seal Tridon Oil Drain Plug TDP034 as says fits the vehicle

My book I have written 14mm -1.5 with a question mark so could be suss, Might be as mine is a 13mm spanner job.................... If its just the seal then you just need a new O ring, oil seal type so orange or green usually, Ive never changed sump plugs on any vehicle just replaced the O rings , old ones may look like a flat seal but usually just a worn O ring.... Always tighten with my hand over the spanner end on bolt never on the spanner shank...... If the plug needs replacing then since its way tougher than the sump I would be worried.
