You tell them that under Australian consumer law all vehicles sold new since 2011 now have to be fit for purpose and not break down with expensive repairs just outside of warranty and that you will not be paying $10k to fix a 3.5 year old engine.
Once they understand that you understand you rights under this new law the tune will change. Do some Googling on the ACCC sites to familiarise yourself with the fit for purpose laws. They sort of make extended warranties pointless.
