Default Fuel - Cherokee 4.0 Vs Grand 4.7

Hi all, I am looking at buying a 2002 WG Grand Cherokee after parting with my 98 Cherokee sport & was wondering if there was much difference in Fuel Consumption between the Cherokee 4.0 & the 4.7V8 in the Grand.

It will be traveling mainly hwy 100km driving. Not to worried about the difference in off-road consumption (I can imagine it will be just as heavy). I am only doing light 4wding these days, more taking the kids camping than trying to climb Everest.

Any feedback from people who have had both is appreciated

My WG 4.7 averages around 18-19L - 100kms around town, goes down to about 16.5L on the highway. I give it a bit of a hiding though. Never had an XJ so can't compare.

Wow that's bad!
Prior to my modding, mine was getting around 10L/100km on the highway and is now up around 12.5L/100.

I average about 16L/100km with big lift, steel bullbar, winch, recovery gear, fridge, spares and 265/75/16 mud tyres.

The 4.7L is listed as just 1L/100km more fuel on combined cycle than 4.0L. This figure is about right although on the Hwy the gap closes to almost nothing. So Id always go the 4.7L + the V8 sounds great & goes heaps better.

I think the best I've ever seen is about 14kms/100ks. Maybe worth mentioning my figures are with a roof cage, 3" Lift, 265/65/17 muddies, HO cams, intake & exhaust & still probably including a little bit of throttle in there.
