I have had little to complain about. First jeep (WG) ever driven and I have no wobble what's so ever (once i fixed it), although she tends to skip if you turn on an uneven surface - probaly the solid axle will do that I suppose.
As for the remote, hmmm- I agree - it's the only thing i can't understand...is there a warranty fix ?????

when I worked for a Jeep dealership, the famous key remote issue would pop its ugly head up all the time. There was something they could do to it to make it work alot better - I think someone mentioned it above - reciever.

And I know what you mean about the take off ability, it does knock the socks off quite a few cars on the roads these days. The bottom end torque is outstanding.
With highway terrain tyres and wet weather, there were SOME WG'J's that you could honesty do a 4 wheel burn out with in a straight line. IT seemed the ones with towbars on them that actually DID tow horse floats / boats ect from new, had all the power in the world, and put away the H.O Overland demo's easy too. The Overland didnt feel THAT powerful in the drivers seat, considering its extra 30 odd KW's on paper ?

Good point there stu - the V8s seem to really respond to a good thrashing every now and then. I don't know if it's the adaptive shift software or something else, but they're just a little pearler of a package.

The RKE system was fixed with the WG update ( MY2001 ), at the time I was told it was simply a change in radio frequency that did the job.

When I was selling these new, I tried Ranchos to fix the wobbly ride. They did a good job, but were very noisy - they rattled and made a 'bellows' sound. I never tried OME because at that time every OME equipped 4x4 I'd ever driven must've had the hardest spring/shock combo they made. Anyone here use OME on their WJ/G with good results ?

Only thing that I hate is, like everyone here, the remote entry. Very inconsistent. I can sometimes get it working 10m away, then I have had to get so close I put the key in the door to open the bloody thing up!!!

I absolutely love the engine response when you give it a bit of the go pedal. Seems the missus always starts tutting & shaking her head when I start leaving the rice burners at the lights wondering what the hell just went on.

John.

Salesguy, I used to set my customer's Grands' up with nothing but the OME complete kits, and for the grey nomads, a rear Whiteline Swaybar that DID do wonders for the rear (especially when towing caravans & boats). I did stress to my rear swaybar equiped customers that expecting the rear suspension to flex hard on a low range style trails would be asking for trouble, as I believe it would have damaged the upper and/or lower mounts. They were'nt the type of people to do that anyway.

I really did like the ride after the OME kit. It was a pitty that the rear bum waddle was still there, but that's the shit thing about the rear of a WG - you cant do much about it except toss it all away and get a 6" Fabtech Long arm kit !! lol!! just kidding, would be nice though.

My old man still has his 01 Laredo V8. We (he) put 3 pistons through the side of the block crossing a (deep as it turned out!) freshwater crossing following me in my 1st petrol lifted KJ back in May 2003. $350 excess on Insurance and he had a brand spanking new motor installed at my work (dealership). The only thing they reused were the heads - but I made them send them away to get milled down a bit 'just to be safe' Feck it goes now, no wonder he kept it all this time. He's been through 4 other daily drivers since then including a Crossfire, but it looks like he'll keep that Grand forever - it owes him nothing.

Got mine booked in for a service on Friday. I'll "request" that the receiver be replaced under warranty. Not sure if it's covered or not.

Yeah, I agree with all here about the low end power. I've got the flo thru Lukey exhaust system so when I stomp on the 'loudpedal' (I love that word), she goes and sounds great too. I don't drag race but there are times when you need that power.

I'll let you know if my 'stealership' (love that word too) does anythng about my remote locking/opening problem.

Thought I would add to my original post. I too was like most of you and hated the ride also. My rear shocks were just about stuffed and had them replaced with OME nitro charger's. It's a std. kit they do for WJ's. I couldn't believe the difference it made. I tow a 16'6" pop-top van and it's so much better than the std. setup. Have done a little off-road work & it was a great improvement.
I also had all the disk rotors replaced with DBA's about 6 months ago & it has made all the difference also.

My latest modification will be a 68l auxillary fuel tank to be fitted next Tuesday by Long Range Auto in Lillydale here in Melb. We are going to do the western half of the country this year, leaving at the begining of April and I feel it needs the extra range.
Glad to see that I am not the only one that hates the door remotes. I was un-aware that there is a fix for it. Mines well out of warranty so the fix would be at a cost for me. Suppose I'll just have to put up with it.
