Default UHF. Just after some recommendations on what to buy and where / how to fit one.

Overdue to fit a dedicated UHF. Been using a handheld which has been fine in a big group but not so adequate when out on our own.
After some help on what to buy and how / where to locate them so they remain neat and tidy looking (not like a truckies cab). TIA.

My suggestion: go with a unit with the controls on the microphone.

You can mount the unit itself anywhere you like, out of sight and just have the microphone somewhere handy. You can even run the microphone cable out through a storage bin somewhere so it is tucked away when not i use.

As to brand, I have an iComm, but any good brand will work fine - Uniden, GME, etc.

Make sure you get a good quality antenna - no good having a good radio and a cheap and nasty antenna...

Cheers

GME has a new one (XRS) that has everything in the handset and I understand it can be programmed with a smartphone. If I didn't already have a bunch of $$ invested in my UHF I'd be looking at that.

Heres a link to the product: https://www.gme.net.au/catalogue/fix.../xrs-370c.aspx

Any suitable model with controls in headpiece. Base unit under driver's seat. Head unit on side of radio etc panel.

I have Icom unit, no real complaints. It does what it's meant to.

Yeah I went with the Icom as well. The transmitter sits in my glove box and the mic with controls is mounted to the right of steering column with the extension lead fed and hidden under dash with just the curly cord laying over the top of steering column between dash and steering wheel. Really neat and practical IMO.

I have a GME mounted in the dash cubby. Controls are on the hand piece, which tucks away behind the cubby door when not in use.
