I would be reluctant to disconnect this if you are thinking of saving fuel. Usually, and I haven't looked specifically into the 2.8 CRD programming, but in other common rail TD's the supplementary coolant heater is used to SAVE fuel. Usually they are used in 3 situations; the heater comes on at startup to assist the engine to reach operating temperature quicker thus saving on the extra diesel to do this; secondly they operate when the cabin heater is activated to keep the missus happy; thirdly they come on at around 10 deg ambient temp to maintain an even block temperature. If you want to save fuel disconnect the heater and loose the clutch fan and go an extra thermal on the front radiator. Of course you could do what the old Kamaz truck drivers used to do is disconnect the coolant heater from the system, fit a hose and you have yourself an under-bonnet camp shower!

G'day bigfella
I like the idea of using the viscous heater as a camp shower heater.
With temp rarely getting below 10 deg where i am, and it would probably only come on for a short time if at all. I think a camp shower might be a better use for it.
I might look into that.

Thanks bigfella
