I hate it when this sort of thing happens and there is no codes ... just frustration

If it only stumbles during warm up from a cold start, try unplugging the upstream O2 sensor, and see if the problem goes away. Might be a bad heater in the sensor. Heater element resistance should be around 5 ohms.

Hey Jonny,
I’ve got a brand new NTK O2 sensor in. My 95 only has one. It’s on the headers. I recently had it on my OBD1 scanner and it was working perfectly.
My scanner shows everything working great. I was busy driving around all day today and not another stumble.

All I can do is monitor the situation. All my ignition and nearly all my sensors are new. But I’m suss on the aftermarket crank sensor. Good brand, but magnet was about half the strength of my old Mopar one. I’ll get the new Mopar CPS in when it gets here and work back from there. The CPS I found is a new old stock made in USA component.

Cheers,

So, I’ve just got back from working away, and can now complete a few small projects.
My new old stock made in USA Mopar crank sensor arrived. I wanted to post up a few picks to show the quality of the genuine units. I got my sand blast nozzle that weighs about half a kilo and the magnet grabs it and can pick up the weight. With the after market ones, the magnet is so weak, you can hardly pick up a small nut. I believe this has an impact on the computer getting good readings.. especially with a bit of heat and age.

Anyway, this one will be going in the Jeep for the next 250,000 km’s.

I had no end of trouble with aftermarket O2’s and other sensors. Went Mopar (or the equivalent OEM branded like Denso, NGK, NTK) and never had troubles again.

That’s correct Fishframe. I will only use quality sensors. Mopar preferred, or equivalent.

My overhead console packed up again. I really like the temp and compass display. Seems most XJ ones are burnt out. After some research, I realised that 94-97 Dodge Ram computers are identical. They pop up on Ebay and sellers usually have pics of them working. I picked this one up for $40 US and it’s on it’s way.

It was time to knuckle down and get some Jeep work done.

First was the Sagem distributor. These were original equipment on the XJ. This one has no play and is like new. I fitted a nipple just in case it wants a squirt of grease in a few years.
As I always do, I simply Mark the orientation of the old rotor before I take the old one out. I then put the next one in with the rotor in the exact same orientation. I also had to make a base gasket as the old one was shot.

Started the beast and she ran better than ever. Smooth as silk.

The old one, that is still working well, went under the back seat as a spare.

Next up was the crank sensor. I can swap these out in half an hour now by removing my front drive shaft. I used my new 11mm magnetic socket that worked perfectly in removing and installing the bolts.

While I had both sensors in the garage, I did a magnetism test. The NTK is a good brand. It was lucky to hold a small bolt suspended. The Mopar magnet was so strong i could suspend a half kilo chunk of metal from it.
The verdict...after market CPS’s are junk.

Once everything was buttoned up, I took the Jeep for a test drive. Smooth as silk and plenty of power.
I’m hoping these two mods will see the reliability return to the Jeep and I don’t have anymore hiccups.

Cheers,
