Default GME Tx6155 uhf handhelds with adapter for external antenna or in car GME.

Hi all trying to work out my best UHF options for my Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 2015

Should I pay around $449 for GME tradies twin pack 5 watt handheld Radios and get the adapter and use an external antenna when in the car and then have two handhelds available when out and about. Has anyone used handhelds this way?

GME said only issue could be if it goes flat you can't use whilst it's charging. I think I could work around that especially with two units.

Other option is spend more or a similar amount for an in car unit like GME Xrs and then buy seperate handhelds?

Thoughts advise welcome

Regards Mark

Well I have gone the built-in plus a hand held route for the exact reasons mentioned, you shouldn't use a handheld while charging. Other than that there is no real reason to not go with 2 handhelds because the external antenna gives similar performance to a built-in unit and you'd have the added flexibility of being able to walk in different directions and maintain contact with your partner/kids while on the move.
I only bought one handheld to start with but found a use for 2, as well as the car mounted unit.
Hope that helps.

Thanks it does help, whilst driving I should be able to make sure one unit is always charged. Swaying towards the two handhelds, that way if one is fishing and daughter is off on her bike we can easily contact each other. Seems like over kill to buy car unit and two hand held units. I could be wrong though.

if you are fishing and your daughter is on her bike how far exactly do you think you'll get range wise on either a hard wired or especially a hand held uhf ?

If you want comms in the car, hardwire it in with a stealth unit. That way it's hidden and not a tempting item for someone to steal . Hook it up to a good antenna and you'll have good range on the road .
