Hi all, recently purchased a handheld Cb, but aren't sure of some of the features.

1. what does duplex do? doesn't seem to make a difference.
2. in the list of channels and frequencies, 15 is listed as a repeater channel, however, when I've been wheeling with Damageman and Wolf, we used 15 [img]graemlins/dunno.gif[/img] what does this mean?

Well I know for a fact 15 is simplex not duplex. Duplex means that you transmit on one channel and recieve back on another channel, but the two act together as one. Duplex operates through a repeater station for massively increased distances.

BTW look around one the web a bit, there's heaps of info available. And also you're handheld is a UHF not an AM if you were wondering. Hope this helps a bit!

Only channels 1 to 8 are duplex channels, so duplex makes no diff on 9 to 40.
Any channel is a good channel to use as long as it is not 5, which is an emegency channel for yota's that get stuck and need assistance. :D [img]graemlins/icon315.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/moon.gif[/img]

on my old cb, channel 9 is for emergencys
it must be set up for a different country
you just hit the emergency button and it would go to channel 9 ??

Channel 9 is the emergency channel on AM CB's and 5 for UHF.

Don't forget:
AM = SUX [img]graemlins/crazy.gif[/img]
UHF = COOL :cool:

AM hasn't got the quality of sound that UHF has, or the practicality, distance, functionability etc. Modern UHF radios kick arse compared to AM's. AM operates at about 27mhz compared to UHF at 477mhz. However, mobile phones operate at 750-850mhz and they ain't too clear now are they? The thing to remember is that nearly all the emergency services use UHF because it is just so much better. Repeaters are excellent for long range...it isn't to hard to set up your own...illegaly of course...and 5 watt restrictions? Well, hmm...

i will have to get a UHF ,
