Default 2nd handWrangler /what to look for/newbie

hello everyone. I'm about to go buy a Wrangler ( I'm looking at a 98 model,59,000 kays on the clock )for the first time . I used to have a Feroza which was a capable little beast and I'm looking to get back into 4x4's after having gotten into motorcycles big time for the last few years. But after getting run over by small korean cars 4 times in the last 2 year's ,i have decided to leave the bikes for sunday morning rides, hence the wrangler. I'm fairly aware of things mechanical . I'm chasing advice in what things i should look for when checking out this car this WE, any advice people can give me ??. Is there a jeep owners club or group in West Oz that people can put me in touch with ??.
Anyhow ,hope to get together with some west aussies for a run sometime
Thank's
Nathan

Jeeezzzz ANOTHER sandmolester... ;)
Ok here's my list of check fors:

1. Have a good hard look at all control arms and brackets (both ends). Make sure they are all mice & straight.
2. While your under there naturally you'll have a good look for rust...
3. Powersteering box leaks (pig).
4. Small diff seaps and rear main are common and generally aren't a big deal because it's usually just damp.....but check the ground under where it normally sleeps to see if it's actually dripping.
5. Look at each of the unis - propeller shafts & front axles...to see if the uni end caps are spinning (ie unis will be due fro replacing). It's not a biggie, but just reflects how much care has been taken.

Overall I don't think there are many things to worry about....

Welcome! Great to see another WA dude join our ranks! One good indication of heavy offroad use is the transfer case skid plate being one of the lower points.

As for WA runs check my website for a few pics of our past outtings.

When you get A TJ, could I come out wheeling with you? Damageman will tell you that I'm a fount of info and helpfulness, that he never regrets meeting me. (in reality, me being in the back last time he went wheeling was pertially responsible for his "mishap")

Where are you in Perth? Anywhere near Wanneroo?

BTW mishap= (badly) broken tailshaft

Nice to see that I am not the only one that tintops kept picking on ( was thinking for a while that all the car dicks were out to get me.
now if they want to pick on me then they will better think twice.
I quit while my foot was still attached (just)
and it is real interesting driving a 4by using a left foot accellerator.
