Hyundai, KiA, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan are much better at customer support and warranty obligations, and quite frankly they build better more reliable cars, which don't have to have a belatedly added bolt-on a dodgy warranty extension for their vehicles like jeep has recently, which is highly conditional on them doing the servicing and only on very recently purchased cars.
For example Hyundai gives 5years without an obligation to come to them for servicing and KIA has been giving 7years warranty for years.
Speak to most Hyundai, Kia, Toyota owners and they are very happy with the reliability and durability of their cars, that don't need to be recalled all the time and don't do mysterious faults either.
The buying public/punters are not all mugs and they vote with their feet, why do you think Jeep sales have been in free-fall for the last couple of years? Its not because they are a great car with good honest support.

Agree on this. My Ford Falcon was a lemon, while my Toyota Avalon just keeps on going (now over 17 years old). Hopefully Jeep can find a way to get some of it's durability / reliability back, as my 2006 KJ has had a few weird quirks (working on fixing them all).

Hyundai and Kia don't make offroad cars, so while they do seem to be better than others, it doesn't help Jeep buyers.
My mate has a nissan R51 Navara, lots of issues, particularly leaking window seals, and from only a few months old, dealer would tell him it was his fault for parking it outside, they refused to fix it. I followed the pathy forum for a bit when thinking of buying an R51, soooo many issues, and the dealers would refuse to fix them, the clutch failures were common (my mate had one of those at 70k too) and dpf issues. The new pathy has plenty of issues, transmission seems to be the biggest.
I owned a 100 series cruiser, wasn't a happy ownership experience for me, there are are some not so happy 3.0 owners with injector seal failures, looking at prado point these days the 2.8 is worse with turbo issues and dpf problems. Reading one owner had a warranty claim knocked back on a turbo failure because of an internal 'impact'.... he's not happy.
The warranty from jeep is a 5 year now, there is no need to get servicing at the dealer for the 5 year cover. In the past dealers offered an additional 3 years on top of the standard 3 year if you serviced with them, wasn't really worth it. The ACL should provide reasonable warranty anyway.
I had 3 recalls for my GC, something about the indicator light that tells you when your blinker bulb is blown didn't always work and a shifter update for idiots who can't put their car in park.... done at service, no big deal. Meanwhile toyota avoids doing recalls to the point they kill people.

Sales are partly driven by perception, partly price and competition. There have been a lot of new offroad capable SUVs added to the market since 2013/14, they got bad press with the Teg Sethi video, all because he kept taking it back to the same dumb dealer who couldn't diagnose a basic sensor failure. And a bit of price pressure from exchange rate movement.
GC sales aren't that bad, they went through the roof for a while, dropped to the floor and now have evened out. In June they are selling a few more than the Pajero Sport, Everest, Fortuner, Trailblazer, etc. The only ones that are selling better are the Prado (reputation and perception) and the MUX (price).

They might continue to make it in the States, but you'd be mad to think they won't manufacture in China. When it comes to import, what guarantee Aus gets the US version?

We can all find 'mates' that have a good or bad run with any specific maker model, all anecdotal "evidence".
The real proof of reliability and durability is real owner experience and breakdown data gathered and compilated to compare brands and models. Oh wait they already do that with the likes of JD Power surveys and surveys conducted by other international consumer organisations and they always show jeeps as well as other Fiat Chrysler products to be well below average.
So I would suggest you stop being a fanboy disregarding anything that contradicts the validation you made when you purchased a jeep.

It is a known fact that JD has a massive dislike for FCA so they can be taken with a pinch of salt

people were saying that about the japanese 30 years ago . It's a completely bullshit POV . people need to get over the made in china = rubbish bullshit .
and besides they won't move manufacturing to china . everything will stay where it is, just like every other f$@$#@#@ing manufacturer who has plants all over the globe .
Baffles me how people carry on with something like this . Lexmark was purchased by a chinese company last year, you know what changes have happened to that american company since ? Absolutely SFA , if anything it's become easier to deal with .
This purchase IF it goes through will not change the day to day running and where cars are manufactured, nor the materials used or the quality of build
