I have yet to do a Tranny service but will be buying the gear from Rockauto and using Penrite oil, checking and the Repco kit is $414 so hope to be less than that for the whole job. The procedure for checking is hard for DiY if not impossible unless you have a hoist, I have the manual and the procedure is damn stupid.... if you would like a copy of the section from the manual PM me with your email and I will see if I can send a pdf of the Tranny Change section.
I have even been toying with using a local mechanic to do the job with me providing the gear as I don't have a hoist anymore... thats serious stuff for me as it has rarely ever happens.

The front bolts on the pan are really hard to get to. A hoist makes it easier but still need to undo rear gearbox mount and raise to get better access. Have been using the Penrite BMV since last drain and fill.

Is that dropping the mount to get the spanner in there or so the bolt can drop far enough ????? or both ????
When I looked at the set up I was most impressed with the engineering and thought that had gone into the mounting position, possibly by a High School work experience student surely not a highly paid engineer....... more like near enough.

With my recent experience, I d like to recommend ONESTOPGEARBOXSHOP in UK, 8l of lifeguard 8 and bmw sump (Genuine ZF) for 270 GBP shipping cost about 25 GBP. You can ask to refund VAT (20%) before order as I did. Yes they did very easily via paypal. Shipping DHL took only 3 days,
The bonus is you dont pay TAX like ebay or amazon.
If you dont want to use BMW sump may be sell it on ebay. still cheaper on oil price than here in Aus.

Penrite ATF BMV 4lt for $40 and tranny pan with filter $400 from Repco. The Penrite is correct specs for the ZF box and the pan is the correct one for the Jeep.
The filter/pan from Rockauto is AUD $230 + post.
But thats for the 8HP70 not the 845RE which some confuse.

So I've just changed my transmission fluid and pan/filter. Fiddly but not too bad to do. Fluid was black and magnets full of crap! (100k no heavy towing)

Only issue is I got 4.6 Lt out of it when draining, but struggling to get 4 Lt in it when filling up (temp is 50deg) Any one had this issue?
I'll let it cool down to 30deg and check again, hoping I can get some more fluid into it!

Interesting to note, one of the pan bolts was finger tight behind the crossmember, no leaks but concerning

Have you had it running and in gear?
